Local fire department warning about fundraising scam

A local fire department has made a notice about a fundraising scam going around imitating organizations on behalf of fire departments.

From Dry Creek Fire department:

Today our assistant chief received a phone call which displayed as a Madison, Mississippi number. The caller claimed he was with the “Firefighters and EMS Charitable Fund.” He then read through a prepared script and asked would there be a donation of their popular $100 spot, $50, or $35. Our assistant chief then told the caller that he served on the department, at which the caller said “ok,bye.”

After checking with our MS Volunteer Firefighters Assoc, several have reported the same calls. This is a scam! There is no such organization. Please do not donate to this scam. As mentioned in earlier posts, our department will always notify of a fundraiser in advance, and would never do “cold calls” to your home.

If you have any questions about any fundraising efforts by our department, please feel free to contact (662) 720-6424 and someone will contact you regarding this information. Please like & share!
