DHS announces increase in SNAP benefits for Mississippi residents

The DHS in Missisisppi announced an increase in standard SNAP benefits for residents and the first round of PEBT benefits on Tuesday for households with school age children.

From DHS:

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, households currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be eligible for a supplemental benefit for July 2020.  Similar benefits were provided for certified SNAP households for the months of March, April, May, and June 2020.

SNAP households that have been certified based on meeting income and resource requirements are eligible to receive the supplement benefits.  These households will receive benefit supplements up to the maximum benefit amount, based on household size.  For example, the maximum benefit for a 2-person household is $355.  A 2-person household authorized to receive $200 for May will receive an additional $155, the total maximum amount the household could receive.

SNAP households already certified to receive the maximum benefit amount for July will not receive an additional supplement.  For example, a 2-person household authorized to receive the maximum amount of $355 will not receive an additional supplement in July.

The July supplements will be available to currently certified SNAP households on July 2.  For households newly approved in the month of July, the supplemental benefit will be available two (2) days after case approval.

In regards to P-EBT benefits:

The first round of P-EBT benefits have been released. We will be releasing more in the coming weeks. Please allow until the end of July to receive your benefits. If you have any questions, please email pebt@mdhs.ms.gov to receive assistance. Thank you for your patience as we work to disburse your P- EBT.
