Clarkdale High sophomore football player dies in car crash

Gavan Clearman, a 16-year-old sophomore and offensive lineman at Clarkdale High School, died in a car crash Wednesday, the Clarkdale Football Boosters said in a Facebook post.

“Our football family is grieving today. We tragically lost one of our players in a car accident this morning,” the Clarkdale Football Boosters wrote. “We are praying for God’s peace, strength, and comfort to surround his family, friends, teammates and coaches. We ask our community to please lift this family up in prayer.”

The boosters noted Clarkdale went 9-4 this season and lost in the third round of the MHSAA 2A playoffs to Heidelberg. Clearman also competed on the school’s archery team and was involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Business Leaders of America, the obituary from Robert Barham Family Funeral Home said. He also was a member of Barnett Independent Church.

An obituary from Robert Barham Family Funeral Home said, “Gavan had a heart of gold, and he will be remembered as a loving son, brother, grandson, and friend.” Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at Evangel Temple Church in Meridian, the funeral home said. Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
