Eller wins GOP nomination in Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District

Ron Eller won the Republican nomination for Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District, the Associated Press said Friday, nearly 10 days after the March 10 primary.

With 97% of ballots counted, AP reported Eller had 51% of the vote (12,772 votes) to Kevin Wilson’s 49% (12,247 votes). AP said remaining absentee ballots made it mathematically impossible for Wilson to overtake Eller.

Eller, a military veteran, small business owner and licensed physician assistant at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, publicly declared victory on March 13. “I am deeply humbled and honored by the trust of the voters of the 2nd District have placed in me again to be their Republican nominee,” Eller said upon declaring victory, AP reported.

Wilson, described by AP as the state’s largest independent oilman and president of the Adams County Board of Supervisors, will be succeeded as the Republican nominee by Eller in the Nov. 3 general election. Eller will face longtime U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson and independent Bennie Foster. AP said Thompson defeated Eller in 2024 with 62% of the vote.

AP also reported results in other races: Republican U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith defeated Ocean Springs doctor Sarah Adlakha, and Lowndes County District Attorney Scott Colom won the Democratic Senate primary. Independent Ty Pinkins will join Hyde-Smith and Colom on the November ballot. In the 1st District, Republican Rep. Trent Kelly ran unopposed while Democrat Cliff Johnson beat Kelvin Buck. In the 3rd District, Republican Rep. Michael Guest and Democrat Michael Chiaradio ran unopposed. In the 4th District, Republican Rep. Mike Ezell led his opponent with more than 80% of the vote, and state Rep. Jeffrey Hulum won the Democratic primary, AP reported.
