Mississippi State routs Southern Miss 12-0 to avenge earlier loss
Mississippi State’s baseball team delivered a dominant 12-0 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday night at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs (21-4, 4-2 SEC) scored early and maintained pressure throughout the game, avenging an earlier loss to the Golden Eagles (19-6, 3-3 Sun Belt).
Center fielder Aidan Teel led the offensive charge with four hits, four runs, two RBIs, and a home run. Freshman Jacob Parker contributed a three-run homer, and Teel also hit a long ball that scored two runs, helping the Bulldogs build a commanding lead. Mississippi State scored in all but one inning, with the first inning producing a three-run rally that set the tone for the game.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Billingsley Jr. pitched two scoreless innings to start the game and earned the win, allowing only two hits with two strikeouts. Southern Miss starter Thomas Crabtree struggled, surrendering three earned runs in just 0.1 innings before being replaced by JW Armistead. The Golden Eagles used nine pitchers in the game.
Southern Miss was limited offensively, with only Joey Urban collecting two hits. The Golden Eagles failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, including a bases-loaded strikeout by Kyle Morrison in the seventh that ended the game.
Mississippi State will travel to Oxford to face No. 18 Ole Miss this weekend. Southern Miss will return home for a series against Appalachian State, according to team schedules.
