Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Ole Miss sweep weekend series at home
No. 4 Mississippi State, No. 10 Southern Miss and Ole Miss each swept weekend opponents at home, the schools reported, improving their records to 14-2, 14-2 and 15-2, respectively.
Mississippi State said the Bulldogs outscored Lipscomb 43-7 across three games, capped by a 26-0, run-rule victory Saturday — the most runs Mississippi State has scored in a game since 2010. The school credited Noah Sullivan and Drew Wyers with a combined 13 hits and five home runs in the series, and freshman Jacob Parker with a homer in game two. Winning pitchers were Ryan McPherson (3-0), Tyler Pitzer (1-0) and Duke Stone (3-0), Mississippi State reported.
Southern Miss reported the Golden Eagles outscored North Alabama 24-7 across the series, finishing with a 9-2 win Sunday. The school said Kyle Morrison had two triples, two home runs and nine RBIs over the weekend. Southern Miss listed Colby Allen (1-1), Grayden Harris (3-0) and McCarty English (1-0) as the winning pitchers.
Ole Miss said the Rebels recovered from an early deficit in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader against Evansville to win 7-2, then posted a 14-2 run-rule win in game two and an 8-3 victory Sunday. Ole Miss credited Will Furniss with seven hits and three RBIs and Tristan Bissetta with five hits, a home run and five RBIs. The school also noted Judd Utermark hit two home runs and is nine shy of Kyle Gordon’s program record of 48 set in 1987. Winning pitchers were Hunter Elliott (2-0), Cade Townsend (2-0) and Wil Libbert (2-1), Ole Miss reported.
The schools announced upcoming midweek games Tuesday at 6 p.m. include Ole Miss at Southern Miss and Mississippi State versus Tulane in Biloxi.
