Mississippi State Sweeps Ole Miss as Southern Miss Wins Series at Home

Mississippi State swept Ole Miss in a three-game SEC series, with the Bulldogs winning the final two games after a dramatic opener. The series took place in Oxford, where Mississippi State claimed victories of 6-1 and 7-1 after winning the opener 5-4 on Friday.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 nationally, improved to 24-4 overall and 7-2 in SEC play. They extended their winning streak against conference opponents and 10-run ruled No. 11 Southern Miss earlier this month. Despite missing star pitcher Ryan McPherson, Mississippi State relied on standout performances from Charlie Foster, Tomas Valincius, and Duke Stone on the mound. Offensively, Jacob Parker and Gehrig Frei contributed with back-to-back home runs in game two, while Andrew Raymond hit his first collegiate home run on Sunday.

Ole Miss, ranked No. 18, struggled offensively, leaving 27 runners on base over the weekend. The Rebels managed only one significant home run, by Austin Fawley, in game one. Ace Hunter Elliott pitched well on Friday, but the team failed to capitalize, and offensive inconsistencies persisted throughout the series. Ole Miss fell to 19-10 overall and 3-6 in SEC play.

Meanwhile, in Hattiesburg, Southern Miss won two of three games against Appalachian State. The Golden Eagles took Friday’s game 6-5, lost Saturday 6-2, but sealed the series with a 13-4 victory on Sunday. Former ace Colby Allen earned the win Friday, and JW Armistead secured Sunday’s victory. Second baseman Kyle Morrison led the offense with five hits, four RBIs, and two home runs across the series.

Looking ahead, Mississippi State will host Grambling on Tuesday before welcoming Georgia for a weekend series. Ole Miss is set to host Little Rock Tuesday and then travel to Florida. Southern Miss will host Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday and then visit Old Dominion, with all series scheduled for Thursday through Saturday during Easter weekend.
