Southern Miss wins Round Rock Classic; Mississippi State, Ole Miss sweep
Southern Miss won the seventh annual Round Rock Classic, a round-robin tournament held in Texas. The No. 20 Golden Eagles finished the event undefeated at 5-1 after defeating Purdue, Oregon State, and Baylor.
On Friday, Southern Miss edged Purdue 5-4, with Drey Barrett driving in the winning run in the ninth inning. Camden Clark earned his second win of the season on the mound. Saturday’s game saw Southern Miss rally from a 3-1 deficit against Oregon State, a College World Series participant in 2025, to win 9-4. Joey Urban led the offense with three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Grayden Harris pitched five strong innings for the win, while Camden Sunstrom closed out the game without allowing a run.
The Golden Eagles capped the weekend with a 5-1 victory over Baylor on Sunday. They scored early and often, with Matthew Russo and Seth Smith accounting for half of their 12 hits. Kros Sivley picked up his first win of the season in relief.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State and Ole Miss each swept their respective home series against nonconference opponents. Mississippi State (8-0) routed Delaware 26-3 over three games, with ace Reese recording at least one hit in each game. Ryan McPherson struck out 11 batters over six innings to earn the win in the opener.
Ole Miss (8-0) defeated Missouri State in three games, starting with an 11-6 win powered by seven runs in the first two innings. Judd Utermark hit three home runs across the series, including two on Friday. Austin Fawley contributed a grand slam, and Dom Decker hit his first home run in Sunday’s game. Pitchers Hudson Calhoun, Taylor Rabe, and JP Robertson each earned wins.
Upcoming games include Southern Miss facing Alabama on Tuesday at 6 p.m., Mississippi State playing Austin Peay at 4 p.m., and Ole Miss hosting Southeast Missouri State at 4 p.m., according to team schedules.
