Starkville group holds Good Friday fish fry to aid unhoused

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Starkville Strong held a fish fry and community event on Good Friday to raise money for a program that helps unhoused people regain stability, the organization said.

Brandi Herrington, founding director of Starkville Strong, said proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the group’s Path to Stability class, which guides clients through comprehensive case management and helps them navigate resources. “That’s where we guide clients through a case management plan comprehensive and we help them navigate resources to find stability and thrive beyond that,” she said.

Herrington said the group aims to show people in difficult seasons that there is a path forward. “From whatever point that they’re at, we see them, we hear them and we do our best to help them find stability,” she said.

Herrington said much of the community need is hidden and events like the fish fry raise awareness of the local homeless population. She told supporters who could not attend they could donate online at Starkvillesstrong.org and click the donate button at the top of the page.
