Suspect in String of Car Burglaries Arrested after Using Stolen Debit Card at Vape Shop
West Point, Mississippi – July 2, 2024
A 22-year-old man suspected in a series of car burglaries spanning across Clay and Monroe counties has been apprehended by authorities, officials confirmed today.
Camryn Hodges was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office following an incident where he allegedly used a stolen debit card at a local vape shop. Reports indicate Hodges made purchases totaling $800 with the illicitly obtained card.
Law enforcement officials suspect Hodges in connection with numerous car break-ins, primarily targeting vehicles in both Clay and Monroe counties. The latest incidents occurred on Saturday along TVA Road in West Point, where at least four cars were reported burglarized. The stolen debit card used at the vape shop was reportedly taken from one of the vehicles broken into that same day.
Upon his arrest, deputies discovered additional incriminating evidence in Hodges’ possession, including marijuana, a semi-automatic handgun, and a Glock switch. Investigators also recovered several other items believed to have been stolen in connection with recent car burglaries in the area.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant by ensuring their vehicles are securely locked and by refraining from leaving valuables unattended inside. This arrest underscores the importance of community awareness and proactive measures in preventing such crimes.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the full extent of Hodges’ alleged involvement in the car burglary spree and anticipates further developments in the case.
