Two Vehicle Accident Causes Death of Southaven Resident

July 9 – A Southaven man has died in a two-vehicle accident in Washington County. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Monday morning on Highway 61. A 2013 Freightliner truck driven by Patrick Franklin, age 43 of Southaven, was traveling south on Highway 61 when it collided with a 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by Sheldrick Newson, age 41 of Shaw. Newson was also heading south on Highway 61 at the time. MHP reports that Franklin received fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and died at the scene. There was no report on the extent of Newson’s injuries, if any. The crash remains under investigation with MHP.
