UMMC clinics remain closed through at least Wednesday after cyberattack

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is extending its clinic closures through at least Wednesday due to a cyberattack that disrupted its systems last week. UMMC initially announced closures for Monday and Tuesday but confirmed on Monday evening that the schedule would remain unchanged through Wednesday.

UMMC officials stated that appointments would be rescheduled as soon as possible. The hospital and emergency departments in Jackson, Grenada, Madison County, and Holmes County remain operational, the health system said on social media. “We apologize for this interruption of our services,” UMMC added. “Teams are working around the clock to restore full operations and help as many people as we possibly can.”

The medical center has set up a triage line at (601) 815-0000 for those with urgent needs, such as medication refills or postoperative care. Patients calling the line are asked to provide their name, callback number, date of birth, reason for the call, and medication details. UMMC said responses may be delayed due to high call volume, and repeated calls could slow response times.

On the morning of Feb. 19, UMMC confirmed that its record system had been shut down, affecting the hospital’s website, phone lines, and email. Officials later identified a cyberattack as the cause, with some networks compromised and others shut down as a precaution. The FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and other federal and state agencies are investigating and working to restore networks. UMMC has not provided a timeline for full recovery, and it is unclear whether patient information was accessed.

UMMC operates seven hospitals, including Mississippi’s largest in Jackson, along with 35 clinics and more than 200 telehealth sites statewide, making it one of the largest healthcare providers in the state.
