Wicker calls Iran the worst actor in global terrorism on consequential day
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker on Tuesday called Iran the worst actor on the world stage regarding state-sponsored terrorism, describing it as a very consequential day in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Wicker made the remarks during a visit to Jackson, Mississippi, while promoting the Trump Accounts for Children. When asked about President Donald Trump’s deadline for Iran to accept terms for a cease-fire, Wicker emphasized the threat Iran poses. He noted that Iran has been killing Americans regularly since 1979 and expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear pursuits.
“Iran has been the worst actor on the world stage when it comes to state-sponsored terrorism that the world has ever seen,” Wicker stated. “I am glad that they are about to be off the scene. The people of Iran deserve better.”
Wicker also highlighted the importance of regional stability, calling for U.S. allies and neighboring Arab nations to help establish a new Iranian government. He stressed the significance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and suggested that oil revenues should benefit the Iranian people rather than terrorist groups.
Later Tuesday, the Associated Press reported that Iran’s United Nations representative, Amir-Saeid Iravani, warned that Tehran would take “immediate and proportionate” action if President Trump followed through on his threats. Iravani characterized Trump’s remarks about Iran potentially causing a civilization to die as incitement to war crimes and possible genocide.
Iran has previously rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal, calling instead for a permanent end to the conflict. The situation remains tense as diplomatic efforts continue.
