2 deputies, PG&E worker wounded; suspect also shot in Camino, sheriff says

Two El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies and a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. worker were wounded Thursday in Camino, California, and the gunman was also shot, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded to a home on Mountain View Drive at 7:25 a.m. after a PG&E crew reported they had been shot at by someone in a nearby residence, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. One PG&E worker was wounded and taken to a hospital; the office said the worker’s injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The sheriff’s office said deputies immediately responded and a SWAT team arrived about three hours later as officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. An officer-involved shooting occurred about 11:25 a.m.; two deputies and the suspect were shot and transported to a hospital. The deputies were listed in stable condition, and the sheriff’s office said the suspect’s condition was not immediately clear. The office said the incident remains under investigation.

Pacific Gas and Electric said it was aware of the incident and that a “contract coworker” was wounded, the company told Fox 40. IBEW Local 1245 identified the worker as a member and said it was relieved the injuries were not life-threatening. “We’re incredibly relieved that our union brother and fellow crewmember is okay after what must have been a terrifying experience,” Bob Dean, the union’s business manager, said in a statement to KCRA. He added that utility workers face dangerous conditions and said, “They should never have to worry about violence from the very people they are there to help. Unfortunately, we are seeing incidents like this happen more often, and it’s unacceptable.”
