Artemis II to fly about 4,000 miles from moon late Monday, NASA says

NASA said the crew of Artemis II will pass about 4,000 miles from the moon at its closest point late Monday and will travel farther into space than any previous human mission.

The agency described the mission as a lunar flyby. NASA said the spacecraft will loop past the lunar surface during the maneuver.

NASA provided the information and released an image credited to “NASA via Getty Images.”
