Biden says Trump is trying to ‘erase the truth,’ weakening U.S. global leadership
Former President Joe Biden accused President Donald Trump on Friday of attempting to “erase the truth” and squandering the United States’ role as a global leader, saying the country is living in “dark days.” Biden made the remarks to South Carolina Democrats at a “thank you” event, where he criticized Trump’s efforts to roll back the Affordable Care Act.
Biden, 83, said Trump was not only targeting his record but also “fairness, equity, history, the truth,” and cited instances in which information about slavery has been removed or altered from museums and national parks since Trump took office. He said “great nations don’t bury the truth. They face it,” and urged Democrats to keep fighting for the country.
Last summer, Trump wrote that “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was,” and ordered a review of the Smithsonian to ensure its exhibits align with celebrating “American exceptionalism,” Biden said, attributing the comments to Trump.
Biden warned that Trump is trying to “steal the election because he knows he can’t win your vote,” and predicted Democrats would retake both the Senate and the House in November. He also criticized Trump for policies that he said raise health care costs and for recent immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota that Biden said included agents “pulling people out of their homes and literally murdering two people in the street,” a reference he made to the deaths of two Americans earlier this year.
Biden faulted Trump’s State of the Union address for omitting mention of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Americans killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis and the Jeffrey Epstein survivors who attended the speech. He cited a Pew Research Center poll he said showed a “dramatic drop in our reputation around the world” and warned that if the U.S. does not lead, other nations could fill the void, he said. The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
