Car plows into crowd outside Redlands bar; gunfire follows, police say

A car drove into a crowd outside a Redlands bar early Sunday, and gunfire followed, injuring four people, the Redlands Police Department said Monday.

Police said the incident began shortly before 1:30 a.m. after an altercation among several people outside The Underground, a restaurant and bar in downtown Redlands.

One person got into a 2022 Tesla and drove away, then circled back and, police said, ‘struck four people who were standing in the street in front of the bar.’ The driver lost control and slammed into a curb, but the vehicle then sped away, leaving a trail of leaking fluids, police said.

After the hit-and-run, an ‘unknown suspect’ drew a gun and fired several shots, shattering the window of one business and damaging the door of another, police said. Police said there were no reports of anyone struck by gunfire.

The four victims suffered serious injuries from the hit-and-run and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the department said. No arrests have been announced in connection with the attack.

Bruno, a business owner whose window was shattered, told Fox 11 Los Angeles that similar incidents have happened in the area and described the downtown block as ‘a location people go after they have been kicked out of other bars,’ the station reported.
