CDC: RSV season started late as new COVID-19 variant spreads

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said respiratory viruses are lingering longer than usual, reporting that respiratory syncytial virus cases began later than expected and that a new COVID-19 variant is spreading across much of the country.

The agency said RSV had started later this season, with cases cropping up after the usual onset, according to a recent CDC update.

The CDC said the spread of a new COVID-19 variant is also affecting trends in respiratory illness. The developments come as spring has officially begun, the agency said.
