Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has filed a lawsuit against Colorado over a new state law aimed at regulating AI technology. The lawsuit was submitted Thursday in federal court, according to court records.
The law, set to take effect in 2024, requires developers of high-risk AI systems to implement protections for consumers. xAI argues that the law is overly broad and could hinder innovation in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence, a source familiar with the lawsuit said.
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, a Democrat, is named in the lawsuit. xAI’s legal challenge seeks to prevent the law from being enforced, stating it could impose unnecessary restrictions on AI development. The case highlights ongoing legal debates over how to regulate emerging technologies while balancing innovation and consumer safety.
