Fetterman says ICE officers improve airport operations amid DHS shutdown
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said Friday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have helped improve airport operations amid the Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
Fetterman made the remarks as the shutdown has caused widespread delays and disruptions at U.S. airports. He noted that ICE officers have been deployed to more than a dozen airports to assist with security and operational challenges.
The senator added that the presence of ICE officers has ‘enhanced some kinds of performance’ at airports, according to his assessment. The shutdown has contributed to staffing shortages at the Transportation Security Administration, further complicating travel during the busy season. DHS has not officially commented on Fetterman’s remarks.
