Giants co-owner Steve Tisch seeks to transfer ownership stake to children’s trusts, NFL memo shows

Steve Tisch and his siblings, Laurie and Jonathan Tisch, are requesting to transfer their collective ownership stake in the New York Giants to trusts established for their children, according to an NFL memo obtained by ESPN. The move requires approval from the league’s finance committee before it can be finalized.

If approved, the transfer would eliminate the Tisch siblings’ ownership interest in the team. The memo states they would “no longer own any interest” in the Giants. The current proposal involves transferring their remaining 23.1% stake to the trusts, with the memo noting that prior transfers to these trusts were completed with previous approvals in 2023 and 2024.

The NFL memo indicates that once the transaction is complete, the Tisch siblings will no longer retain any ownership in the franchise. A request for comment from the Giants was not immediately returned, and a team spokesperson told ESPN he had “nothing to add.”

The move comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Steve Tisch’s associations, including his name appearing more than 400 times in files released by the U.S. Justice Department related to Jeffrey Epstein. Tisch has acknowledged a brief email exchange with Epstein but denied visiting the island or engaging in any inappropriate conduct. He said he regrets his association with Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 on sex trafficking charges.

While Tisch has not faced criminal charges, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in February that the league would review Tisch’s connection to Epstein to determine if it violates league conduct policies. The Tisch family has co-owned the Giants since 1991, sharing ownership with the Mara family, founders of the franchise. Despite a cancer diagnosis revealed in September 2025, John Mara continues to play a key role in team operations, including hiring decisions. In September, the Koch family also acquired a 10% noncontrolling stake in the team.
