Gonzales, Herrera headed to May GOP runoff in Texas’ 23rd District

Rep. Tony Gonzales and gun rights YouTuber Brandon Herrera were projected to head into a May runoff in the Republican primary for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ reported.

The projection followed media reports alleging Gonzales had an affair with a former staffer, which unsettled the congressman’s reelection campaign, according to those reports.

Gonzales, R-Texas, is the incumbent in the predominantly Republican district. Herrera has attracted attention as a gun rights advocate and content creator on YouTube, Decision Desk HQ said.

The two candidates are set to face each other in a May runoff for the GOP nomination for the 23rd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projected.
