Hegseth urges prayer for U.S. forces, reads sermon during Iran briefing

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth asked Americans to “take a knee and pray to Jesus” for the success of U.S. forces in the Middle East during a briefing on the Iran war last week, he said.

A few days later, Hegseth read aloud a sermon that prayed that “wicked souls” be “delivered to the eternal damnation” in the fight, according to the remarks he made.

The comments came during an official briefing on the conflict in Iran and in a subsequent public reading, Hegseth said. He did not provide additional context for the sermon or its origin.

Hegseth, who is the nation’s defense secretary, made the remarks in the course of discussing U.S. military efforts and appeals to the public, he said.
