House approves eight-week DHS funding bill after rejecting Senate measure

House lawmakers on Friday approved a Republican bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security for eight weeks. The legislation provides full funding for the agency, after GOP leaders rejected a Senate-passed bill that would have excluded money for immigration enforcement.

The partisan package was seen as a concession to conservative immigration advocates. House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, was praised by some conservatives for supporting the measure.

The bill now moves to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain. The short-term funding aims to prevent a government shutdown while negotiations continue on longer-term legislation.
