House ethics panel holds rare public hearing on Cherfilus-McCormick
The House Ethics Committee held a rare public hearing Thursday to examine allegations that Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) used millions in improperly paid federal disaster funds to finance her campaign, the panel said.
The committee said the core of the alleged violations centers on $5 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds that were improperly paid.
The panel said the hearing was convened to examine a swath of allegations related to those payments and other matters under its jurisdiction.
The committee provided the information Thursday as it moved forward with the public proceeding, according to the panel.
