Justin Timberlake struggles through sobriety tests during Hamptons traffic stop
Police video released Friday shows Justin Timberlake struggling through field sobriety tests during a traffic stop in Sag Harbor, New York, in June 2024. The footage captures the singer’s arrest after officers suspected him of drunk driving.
According to police, Timberlake was pulled over after running a stop sign, veering out of his lane, and exiting his BMW while smelling of alcohol. When asked why he was in town, Timberlake said he was on a world tour. When asked if he had a license, he responded, “I’m Justin Timberlake.”
Body camera footage shows Timberlake having difficulty following instructions during sobriety tests, including walking heel-to-toe and standing on one leg. He told officers he was nervous and that his heart was racing. In the back of the police car, he questioned why he was being arrested.
Timberlake was informed at the police station that he would be held overnight. He expressed surprise, saying, “I’m going to be here all night? You guys are wild, man.” The singer later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired and was sentenced to community service. As part of a plea deal, he issued a public apology.
Earlier this month, Timberlake filed a lawsuit to prevent the release of the body camera footage, arguing it contained private information. However, his lawyers later agreed the video did not constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy and consented to its release. Timberlake’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
