Kaine: Trump calling Iran war an ‘excursion’ disrespects service members

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., criticized President Donald Trump on Monday for referring to the war in Iran as an “excursion,” saying the characterization was disrespectful to service members.

“You can’t watch that and feel that that way of characterizing this is [not] deeply disrespectful,” Kaine told host Kaitlan Collins on CNN’s “The Source.”

Kaine made the comments after watching a dignified transfer of Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, according to his interview on the program.

The remark by Trump that Kaine criticized prompted the senator’s on-air comments, which he framed around the ceremony he had watched and the treatment of military personnel, Kaine said.
