Nutella floats into viral fame on NASA Moon mission
A jar of Nutella became an unlikely star during NASA’s Artemis II mission, capturing a viral moment in space. The chocolate-hazelnut spread was seen floating inside the spacecraft’s kitchen, drifting in zero gravity with its label clearly visible.
The scene was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, with many users calling it the greatest free advertising moment in history. Some described it as an unbeatable marketing stunt, while others joked that no campaign could replicate it.
Nutella’s marketing team shared the video, captioning it: “Honored to have traveled further than any spread in history. Taking spreading smiles to new heights.” The post has garnered nearly 200,000 views on social media as of Monday evening. NASA’s Kennedy Space Center also joined in, posting: “Enjoying sweet treats while our Artemis crew takes sweet photos of the Moon!”
The Nutella clip aired about four minutes before the Artemis II crew made history by surpassing the Apollo 13 distance record of 248,655 miles from Earth. The crew safely reestablished contact with mission control after a planned blackout behind the Moon on Monday, during which they became the most isolated humans in history.
The astronauts observed a rare solar eclipse during their flyby, capturing images of the Sun’s corona and planets. It will take four days for the crew to return to Earth, with a planned splashdown in the Pacific near San Diego on April 10. The mission includes Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen.
Fox News Digital reached out to Nutella’s parent company, Ferrero, for comment but has not received a response.
