Park Police officer shot in Southeast D.C.; injuries not life-threatening
A U.S. Park Police officer was shot Monday evening in Southeast Washington and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, U.S. Park Police and the D.C. Police Union said.
The D.C. Police Union posted on X that the officer was shot in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE and said it was “sending prayers for the officer.” U.S. Park Police said the shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. and confirmed the officer’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Authorities shut down multiple blocks and restricted vehicle and pedestrian access as they responded, FOX 5 in D.C. reported. The station said closures included areas along Benning Road SE, the 5000 through 5100 block of Queens Stroll Place SE and the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE. Officials told FOX 5 they were urging the public to avoid the area and to follow police directions.
A heavy law enforcement presence remained as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting, FOX 5 reported. Fox News Digital said it had reached out to the Metropolitan Police Department for additional information.
FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X that the FBI was “actively supporting the investigation alongside our law enforcement partners” and asked the public to keep the officer and their family in their prayers. “We will bring those responsible to justice,” Patel wrote.
