Rams make Trent McDuffie NFL’s highest-paid cornerback with $124 million deal

The Los Angeles Rams have signed cornerback Trent McDuffie to a four-year, $124 million extension, making him the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal includes $100 million guaranteed and an average annual value of $31 million in new money. McDuffie will also be paid $13.6 million in 2026 under his fifth-year option.

The Rams acquired McDuffie in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last week, sending their No. 29 pick in this year’s draft, along with 2026 fifth- and sixth-round selections and a 2027 third-round pick. The move addresses a key need for the Rams this offseason.

McDuffie, a first-team All-Pro in 2023, has played a significant role in the Chiefs’ defense during their recent Super Bowl runs. Last season, he set a career high with 63 tackles and added seven passes defended, one sack and one forced fumble.

The California native, born in Westminster, California, expressed a desire to play close to home, telling ESPN in August 2025 that he would prefer to be near family. The deal comes ahead of the NFL’s legal tampering period, which begins Monday at noon ET, allowing teams and players to negotiate extensions before the league year starts March 11.
