Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, said Tuesday he will support a House war powers resolution when it returns to the chamber, a reversal of his previous position, Cuellar said in a lengthy statement.
Cuellar criticized President Donald Trump’s threat that “a whole civilization will die” in Iran, which Trump issued Tuesday morning and later backed down, Cuellar said.
Cuellar said the war powers resolution is needed to curb what he called Trump’s attacks on Iran, according to the statement.
The congressman did not provide additional details about timing or votes in the statement, and his office did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
