Report: Patrick Mahomes could return from ACL injury sooner than projected

Fox Sports analyst Jay Glazer said Thursday that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could return from a season-ending ACL tear sooner than originally projected, calling the three-time Super Bowl MVP driven and unusually resilient.

Mahomes suffered the injury during a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium last season, when he scrambled late in the game, the team said. The injury ended the Chiefs’ decade-long run of playoff appearances and left his availability for the start of the 2026 season uncertain.

Speaking on the “Dan Patrick Show,” Glazer said medical staff operated before significant swelling set in and that Mahomes began rehabilitation almost immediately. “So at first they were like, ‘Oh, you know, start of the season,’ I would probably hedge on him being [back] sooner than that,” Glazer said, adding that Mahomes already had his knee bending to 90 degrees within days of surgery.

Mahomes posted on social media after the injury, thanking fans and saying he would “Trust in God.” The Chiefs finished the 2025 season 6-11. Earlier this week, the team traded cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for a package of future draft picks, the team announced.
