Rhode Island hockey rink shooting suspect posted warning about going ‘berserk’ before attack

A man accused of shooting and killing two people at a Rhode Island ice rink posted on social media about going “berserk” a day before the attack, according to authorities and posts reviewed by reporters.

Robert Dorgan, 56, reportedly made the posts on X, formerly Twitter, amid online disputes involving comments about transgender issues. His profile listed the name Roberta Dorgano. In one post, Dorgan responded to actor Kevin Sorbo, who had questioned the gender identity of Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., with a comment about going “berserk.” Dorgan also responded to Infowars host Alex Jones, telling him to “shut the f— up” and claiming that transgender people go “fkn berserk,” according to screenshots reviewed by reporters.

The posts came one day before Dorgan allegedly opened fire inside the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket during a hockey game. Pawtucket police chief Tina Goncalves said the shooting appeared to be related to a family dispute. Video footage from inside the arena shows players diving and fans fleeing as shots ring out, with at least a dozen rounds heard.

Authorities confirmed two people were killed and three others critically injured. Dorgan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A source told Fox News that the gunman had shot his wife and three children before turning the gun on himself in what was described as a domestic violence incident. Police have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting.

Rep. McBride responded to the incident in a statement to Fox News Digital, calling it a “horrific and evil crime” and expressing her prayers for the victims’ families. Investigators continue to review surveillance footage and witness statements to piece together the timeline of events.

Court records show Dorgan had a history of conflicts with relatives, including disputes related to his gender transition. In 2020, he reported to North Providence police that he had undergone gender-reassignment surgery and alleged his father-in-law wanted him out of the family home due to his gender identity. The father-in-law was charged in connection with the dispute, though the case was later dismissed.

Additional records indicate Dorgan’s divorce in 2021 was filed citing irreconcilable differences. At that time, he was living in Jacksonville, Florida, and working as a truck driver. Police records also show a 2020 incident where Dorgan accused his mother of assault, a case later dismissed, and threats made by his father-in-law, which Dorgan claimed included threats of retaliation and violence.
