Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said Monday he hopes to hold a confirmation hearing next week for Sen. Markwayne Mullin to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Paul told reporters that the hearing is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday. The timing aligns with the committee’s efforts to move Mullin’s nomination forward.
The nomination of Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma, has been under review since President Donald Trump announced his selection. The Senate must confirm Mullin before he can assume the DHS leadership role.
The committee’s decision on the hearing date signals progress in the nomination process. Further details are expected to be announced as the date approaches.
