Trump says ‘America needs God,’ touts ‘resurgence’ of religion in Good Friday message
President Donald Trump delivered a Good Friday message from the Resolute Desk, declaring that “to be a great nation, you must have religion, and you must have God,” and saying religion is experiencing a “resurgence” across the United States, according to a video he posted on Truth Social.
In the video, Trump framed faith as a central pillar of American strength and honored the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “This Holy Week, I’m proud to join with Christians across the country and around the world to celebrate the most glorious miracle in all of time — the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” he said, and quoted John 3:16.
Trump recalled his Presbyterian upbringing and credited his faith to his mother and father, remarks he has made previously, including at the 2024 National Faith Summit. The video said his administration has invited prayer back into the public square through an America 250 prayer initiative and the creation of a White House Faith Office early in his second term.
The president has been more open about his faith since surviving an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. In a 2025 address to a joint session of Congress, he said, “I believe that my life was saved that day in Butler for a very good reason. I was saved by God to make America great again. I believe that.”
Trump closed the Good Friday message by wishing viewers a blessed holiday. “Happy Easter to all. May God bless you. May God bless the United States of America,” he said. The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, the post said.
