Tucson gun shop owner says FBI asked him to check buyers against list in Nancy Guthrie search

A Tucson gun shop co-owner said an FBI agent asked him to review recent firearm purchases against a list of nearly two dozen names and photos in the search for Nancy Guthrie, but that none matched his store records, the owner told Fox News.

Phillip Martin, co-owner of Armor Bearer Arms, told Fox News’ Amalia Roy that an agent visited the store with three pages listing about 18 to 24 individuals, each with a corresponding photo and name. “He actually had given me a list of paper, list of people that had pictures and names on it, and he wanted to know if I could help him pull up in my system if any of these people have purchased a gun in the last year,” Martin said.

Martin said he initially questioned the request but agreed to help because he felt for Guthrie’s family. “I felt bad for the family. Anything that could help them find the person I was willing to help,” he told Fox News. He said he entered last names into his store’s electronic records and found no matches for firearm purchases within the past year. Martin said the agent told him investigators planned to visit other gun stores to check their records.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos disputed media reports that investigators have narrowed the suspect pool to a few dozen people. In an interview with Fox News’ Jonathan Hunt, Nanos said, “That’s not true,” and added, “We haven’t narrowed it down to anything other than we have pieces of evidence that we’re looking at to try to find this individual.”

Fox News Digital has published a timeline of events around Guthrie’s home from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2026, including authorities’ notes that a garage door closed late Jan. 31 and that various cameras and devices showed unusual activity in the early hours of Feb. 1, according to the report.
