U.S. judge rules Pentagon policy violates First Amendment

A U.S. judge ruled that a Pentagon policy requiring media organizations to pledge not to gather information unless Defense officials formally authorized its release is at odds with the First Amendment, the judge said.

According to the policy, media organizations had to promise not to collect information unless Defense officials approved its release.

The judge said the rules conflict with the protections of the First Amendment.
