YouTube expands AI likeness detector to politicians, journalists

YouTube said Wednesday it will expand access to its artificial intelligence detection tool to a pilot group of politicians and journalists.

The company said the likeness detection feature flags AI-generated content that uses a person’s image or voice and allows that person to request removal if it violates YouTube’s policies.

YouTube said the pilot will let lawmakers and reporters use the tool, but the company did not immediately provide details on the size of the pilot or when it will begin.

The company provided the information in a Wednesday announcement, saying the expansion is intended to give certain public figures additional ability to identify and address potential misuse of their likeness, YouTube said.
