Ashland Fire Battles Sixth Grass Fire Since Saturday as Dry Conditions, Storm Debris Fuel Risk
ASHLAND, Miss. — The Ashland Fire and Rescue responded to another dangerous grass fire on Country Church Road as dry conditions continue to fuel wildfire risks across the area.
According to officials, crews were dispatched to an out-of-control grass fire that quickly spread and threatened nearby structures. Units responding included Brush 1, Engine 4, Tanker 1, and Rescue 1, with seven personnel on scene.
The fire intensified rapidly, ultimately destroying a truck and beginning to ignite a nearby camper. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish the flames before the camper was completely lost.
This marks the sixth grass or woods fire Ashland crews have responded to since Saturday, highlighting an ongoing increase in fire activity across the region.
Officials say a combination of dry weather, gusty winds, and leftover debris from recent ice storms is creating especially hazardous conditions. Downed limbs and brush piles left behind from storm damage can ignite easily and cause fires to spread quickly, particularly when burned without proper precautions.
Ashland Fire and Rescue is urging residents to use extreme caution when burning outdoors. Anyone planning to burn debris should ensure they have adequate water, equipment, and a properly prepared fire break in place before starting a fire.
Authorities emphasize that it only takes a single spark under current conditions to create a dangerous and fast-moving fire.
