Baldwyn man charged with murder and shooting in to a dwelling

PRENTISS COUNTY — The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting reported Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, on County Road 5401.

Deputies Josh Brumley and Hunter Arnold responded to a 911 call at 2:12 p.m. and found a 51-year-old man unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies detained two men and a woman at the scene for questioning.

The victim of the shooting was later identified as Judson Morris, 51, of Baldwyn. Following the initial investigation, Hunter Van James, 21, of Baldwyn, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and shooting into a dwelling. Justice Court Judge Ray Hall set James’s bond at $500,000.

Investigators Aaron Stolz and Torie Jumper are leading the case. Deputy Ethan Hester and N’Shaun Cameron also assisted, along with Assistant District Attorney Joel Baldwin and Deputy Coroner David Horn. Stolz will present the case to a Prentiss County grand jury.
