Sears anchor store at mall in Tupelo to Close
The Sears anchor location in Tupelo is set to close by February as part of the Sears corporate restructuring, the company announced today.
Sears was at one time the largest retailer in America and at its peak had over 300,000 employees. After this round of closing, the company will be 10% of that.
Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection last month.
The location in Tupelo has been there since the Mall at Barnes Crossing opened in 1990.
Its closing is part of the wider “retail apocalypse” across the nation. with more stores like Lowes, Sames club, K-Mart and more shuttering locations.
