Tippah County man sentenced to 15 years for touching a child for lustful purposes
A Tippah County man was sentenced on Monday to 15 years with 12 years suspended for touching a child for lustful purposes.
John Benjamin Smith was sentenced to serve three years in the custody of the MDOC.
John Benjamin Smith has pleaded guilty to the charge of “Touching a Child for Lustful Purposes” in a Tippah County Circuit Court.
The defendant was indicted by the grand jury and entered his guilty plea voluntarily, knowingly, deliberately, and intelligently.
The court has accepted the plea, and Smith has been sentenced to 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 12 years suspended, leaving three years to serve.
He will be placed on five years of post-release supervision and will be required to register as a sexual offender with the Mississippi Sexual Offender Registry.
Smith also must pay $1,000 in to the MS Human Trafficking Fund and $1000 in to the MS Children Victim Compensation Fund.
