Train derails in Blue Mountain on Monday morning
TIPPAN COUNTY, Miss. — Monday, Feb. 16, 2026 — A freight train derailed early Monday morning just north of Profile Products LLC, causing major traffic delays and prompting authorities to close the area while crews respond.
The incident occurred on railroad tracks that run parallel to Highway 15 in Tippah County, just north of the town of Blue Mountain. The derailment blocked the intersection and surrounding roadways near Profile Products’ facility, backing up traffic in both directions as emergency responders secured the scene.
Roads Closed, Drivers Urged to Detour
Law enforcement and county officials urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the cleanup continues. With tracks blocked and equipment on site, traffic has been routed off of Highway 15 and nearby county roads and delays are expected to continue through the morning and possibly into the afternoon.
Drivers traveling between Ripley, Blue Mountain, and New Albany should plan detours using state and county roads away from the derailment site. Mississippi Department of Transportation crews are assisting in redirecting traffic.
Emergency Response Underway
No official word has yet been released regarding injuries or hazardous material spills. Emergency responders — including local fire departments, Tippah County Sheriff’s Office, and state law enforcement — are on scene assessing the situation and assisting with cleanup efforts. Railroad personnel and recovery crews have also been called in to help clear the derailed cars and restore rail service.
