17-year-old charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault in Tupelo shooting

The Tupelo Police Department said Jatavion D. Leach, 17, was charged March 18 with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault following a March 2 shooting at a Chevron station in Tupelo.

Officers responded March 2 to 1391 West Jackson Street after reports of a gunshot wound, the department said. They found a victim with a gunshot wound to the arm and began an investigation.

The department’s Criminal Investigation Division processed the scene and gathered evidence, and investigators said further inquiry led to the charges against Leach, who is from Tupelo.

Lee County Circuit Court Judge White ordered Leach held on a $50,000 bond on March 18, court records show. The Tupelo Police Department said the charges will be presented to the Lee County grand jury.
