Agencies aiding Mississippi storm survivors; public assistance approved for 38 counties

Volunteer agencies are continuing recovery work across Mississippi after Winter Storm Fern, and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said federal Public Assistance has been approved for 38 counties affected by the Jan. 23-27 storm.

The agency listed volunteer groups working in the state, including Convoy of Hope, Samaritan’s Purse, Mennonite volunteer electricians, faith-based rebuilding groups and long-term recovery committees where they exist, MEMA said.

MEMA said Public Assistance was approved for 34 counties for all categories A through G, including Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun and Carroll, among others. The agency said approvals cover damage from the Jan. 23-27 severe winter weather.

Residents still in need of help should contact their local county Emergency Management Director for direction and assistance, MEMA said. For more information, the agency directs people to its January 2026 Winter Weather webpage, MEMA said.
