Blue Mountain Christian University updates storm recovery efforts

Blue Mountain Christian University provided an update Wednesday on recovery efforts after a recent storm. The campus has seen significant progress in restoring services, with power restored around 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to university officials.

Gas service has also returned to the area and is being restored by location. Water service is expected to be fully restored within the next 24 hours, while internet access remains a work in progress, with significant improvements anticipated soon.

The campus has experienced water damage in the dining hall due to leaks and has sustained considerable tree damage. Cleanup efforts will begin once conditions allow, officials said.

University President Barbara C. McMillin expressed gratitude for the community’s support and thanked responders and volunteers. She also highlighted community partners caring for students unable to return home, including First Baptist Church of Tupelo, Hillcrest of New Albany, and First Baptist of New Albany.

Individuals interested in helping can contact volunteer coordinator Bob Cloyde at 662-587-3288. The university is also in urgent need of a four-wheel-drive pickup truck. McMillin closed by thanking supporters for their compassion and generosity, emphasizing the importance of community efforts during recovery.
