I-22 and I-55 reopen in northern Mississippi amid winter weather

All lanes of I-22/U.S. 78 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line reopened Friday morning, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The section of I-55 north of Como (Exit 257) is also open.

Despite the reopenings, icy conditions, debris, and ongoing crews remain in the area. Officials advise against travel on these routes unless absolutely necessary. Authorities continue to report ice on roads and bridges across 21 counties, including Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, and DeSoto, among others.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and check live road conditions before traveling. The MDOT Traffic App and website provide updates on winter weather and road safety. Emergency travel is recommended only in affected areas, which are highlighted in blue on the agency’s map.

Additional information is available at MDOT’s news release page.
