Interstate 22 and 55 reopen in northern Mississippi after winter storm
All lanes of Interstate 22 from Red Banks to the Tennessee state line and the northbound section of Interstate 55 north of Como are now open, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The agency announced the reopening at 8 a.m. Friday.
While the highways are accessible, crews continue to work at the sites, and icy conditions persist. Officials advise against travel on either route unless absolutely necessary. Multiple counties remain affected by winter weather, with reports of ice on roads and bridges in 21 counties, including Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, and DeSoto, among others.
MDOT recommends using the Traffic App or visiting MDOTtraffic.com for real-time road conditions. The department has shaded affected counties in blue on its map and urges emergency travel only in these areas.
Travel conditions are expected to improve as crews continue clearing and treating roads. No additional injuries or accidents have been reported at this time.
