MDOT holds District 6 Equipment Operators Roadeo

The Mississippi Department of Transportation held its annual Equipment Operators Roadeo for District 6 at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center on Thursday, April 2, the agency said.

Charles Busby, MDOT’s Southern District transportation commissioner, said the roadeo “brings together workforce development and spirited competition in a way that lets our operators demonstrate their expertise on heavy equipment while continuing to refine their skills.” He added, “Making sure we invest in our team’s training is key to protecting both our employees and the traveling public. It’s also a lot of fun and one of the highlights of the year.”

MDOT said the roadeo focuses on efficiency and skill and gives employees a chance to display mastery of vehicle handling, trailer maneuvering and precision with heavy equipment.

The agency said judging criteria provide feedback to help operators evaluate strengths and challenges. Operators can improve techniques and learn new skills while taking part in friendly competition, MDOT said.
