MDOT Holds Equipment Operators Roadeo in McComb

The Mississippi Department of Transportation held its annual Equipment Operators Roadeo for District 7 at its district office in McComb on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, the agency said.

“The Roadeo brings together workforce development and spirited competition in a way that lets our operators demonstrate their expertise on heavy equipment while continuing to refine their skills,” Southern District Transportation Commissioner Charles Busby said. “Making sure we invest in our team’s training is key to protecting both our employees and the traveling public. It’s also a lot of fun and one of the highlights of the year.”

MDOT said the event focuses on efficiency and skill. The agency said it gives employees an opportunity to display mastery of vehicle handling, trailer maneuvering and heavy equipment precision.

The agency said event and judging criteria provide feedback to help operators evaluate their strengths and challenges. MDOT said operators use that feedback to improve techniques and learn new skills while engaging in friendly competition.
